Its that time of year again and having missed the Willie Clancy week its time for music and chat at the South Sligo Summer School in Tubbercurry a small town in South East Sligo Its the festivals 25 year and promises to be a good one.
This is my favourite festival, its not too big and attracts a great crowd of musicians and listeners alike.
Some pictures of The Pubs in tubbercurry
John Gara on fiddle
So as usual its a time to make new friends and old, and the music flows , like a stream through Tubber .
All age groups are present and its a fine opportunity to hear tunes old and new
Two fine dancers from Galway they also played tunes
And so another year is over but these three musicians carry on and on charming the birds from the trees, with music from the heart music free from the constraints of competiton and commercial influences, which is the greatest threat to the culture...
By the way if you are lucky to find the film "pilgrimage of ti jean" dont miss it After viewing it with a few fiddlers there was a mass burning of fiddles promised..Talk about the Coleman style....phew its a thing of the past...
